Near or Far- Painting

“Near or Far" 48”x36” acrylic on canvas
I’ve been working on a series of paintings for an upcoming show. They feature stylized trees with an object painted more realistically (ie: “Cardinal” 40”x30”). My newest one, “Near or Far” 48”x36” shows a more realistic depiction of a birdhouse in contrast with the flatter graphic tree, sky and ground. The visual tension created by “resting” the birdhouse on the horizon is to make the viewer ask themselves, is the bird house attached to the big branch or is it being held up by the little branch? Is the little branch about to break? Or is the birdhouse resting on the horizon nowhere near the tree? Is your home close to your family tree or far away?
